The Jupiter Ionizer Biostone Select™ Filter is the newest in the "Biostone" family line of filters. Made to create the cleanest and best tasting water for your water ionizer, the Biostone Select™ reduces chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, scale buildup, hydrogen sulfide, VOC's, THM's, organics, and hundreds of other man-made chemicals. This makes the the Biostone Select™ the filter of choice for those with chemically treated municipally-supplied tap water. For those with untreated well-water, or minimally treated city-suppled water, you may opt to purchase the Jupiter Ionizer Protector™ Red-D Ultra Filter instead of the Biostone Select.
The Jupiter Ionizer Biostone Select™ Filter has 11 stages of protection including Spartan catalytic carbon, KDF®55 media, tourmaline, Slow Phos® polyphosphate, and multiple 1 micron sediment pads placed between each layer of media. The filter also employs Vortex Channeling and includes a filter adapter stand for those who require one. Further description of each media can be found below.

Spartan Catalytic CarbonSince the Egyptians discovered that storing water in charcoal made it stay fresher and taste better, carbon has been a standard feature in water treatment. Its centuries of popularity attest to its effectiveness. Catalytic Carbon is an extremely versatile and highly effective water treatment medium. It has immense surface area. A single pound of granular activated carbon has a filtering surface area equivalent to 125 acres! The water treatment industry has been using a compound called KDF for decades. KDF is by far the most widely used heavy metal reducing media in the US. KDF Fluid Treatment's unique combination of copper and zinc (Redox) creates an electro-chemical reaction. During this reaction, electrons are transferred between molecules, and new elements are created. Some harmful contaminants are changed into harmless components. Some heavy metals such as copper, lead, mercury and others, react to the medium's surface, thus being effectively removed from the water supply. Slow Phos® is specially designed and manufactured to be a form of slowly dissolving polyphosphate beads for use in potable water systems. Water flowing through a filter is able to "channel" around the carbon granules and avoid filtration. Water seeks the path of least resistance. When it flows through a bed of loose carbon granules, it can carve a channel where it can flow freely with little resistance. Water flowing through the channel does not come in contact with the filtration medium, thus resulting in poor performance and shorter filter life span.
The Jupiter Ionizer Biostone Select™ Filter utilizes Vortex Channeling technology in both the inlet and outlet of the filter which forces the water to be evenly dispersed throughout the filter media. This results in a far greater amount of contact with the filtering media beds by avoiding channeling and increases the performance and life span of the filter. How do I know when my filter needs to be replaced?
All machines that use this filter have either a digital numeric readout or a progressive bar indicator. When the numeric readout reaches 9999 (or 999 on 3-digit readouts) or if all of the filter bars are lit up, generally a filter light will begin to blink letting you know that you've reached the maximum capacity of the filter. This can also be accompanied by the ionizer playing a constant tune. This can happen anywhere between 6 to 12 months, depending on the amount of water your family uses. When that occurs, it's time to change the filter. Also, you should change the filter at least every 12 months, whether the filter use light is blinking or not.
It has been two years since I changed my filter last, but I don't use the machine that often. Do I still need to change the filter?
Yes. Even though you may only be using the water ionizer once in a while, the filter media and housing is filled with water. The integrity of the internal filter media will begin to diminish over time, and the inside of the filter will degrade. Therefore, it is imperative that you change your filter at least once every 12 months.
Is this the same Biostone filter that was sold years ago?
Yes and no. Although the filter uses the familiar name of "Biostone" (which is the name representing the inclusion of tourmaline in the filter), it is not the same filter that has been sold since 2008. The original Biostone Plus™ filter was discontinued, and replaced by a newer version, manufactureed by AlkaViva. The new Jupiter Ionizer Biostone Select™ Filter is similar to the original Biostone Plus™ filter, but has a few enhancements. If you liked the original Biostone Plus™ filter from years ago, you'll love the new Biostone Select™ version even more!
What is the adapter that comes with this filter?
The Jupiter Ionizer Biostone Select™ Filter comes with its own filter adapter, to be used inside ionizer's that currently use filter adapters. Some machines do NOT use adapters (i.e. the Melody JP-104), and so you would not use the adapter that comes with this filter. But, if your machine uses filter adapters, you want to use the included adapter with the filter.
How do I install the adapter?
After removing your old filter and adapter, insert the included adapter into the spring-loaded baseplate FIRST (before you install the filter). Then, after the adapter is in place you can then install the filter (inserting the top of the adapter into the bottom of the filter first).
What does the term "Biostone" refer to?
Biostone refers to the addition of a ceramic formed of the semi-precious mineral tourmaline within the filter.
What is tourmaline? How does it effect the water in my water ionizer?
Tourmaline naturally emits far infrared energy (FIR) and changes the surface tension of the water, making it (a) easier to process for the ionizer and (b) beginning the negative ion creation process. In practical terms it means you'll get better water by far, even with the "Purified Only" water setting, and you'll get more antioxidant effect with the alkalized water, without an accompanying increase in alkalinity. It's like an antioxidant 'supercharger'.
Does this filter remove fluoride?
Fluoride is one of the hardest contaminants to remove from drinking water, and requires its own very specific media for removal. There just wasn't enough room inside the Biostone Select™ filter to fit the fluoride media as well as the other media. Therefore, we've created the Jupiter Ionizer Fluoride Filter For Athena, which is an internal filter that can be used in conjunction with the Biostone Select™ filter, in machines that have two filters. If you have an Athena, you would purchase the Jupiter Ionizer Fluoride Filter For Athena. If your ionizer has only one filter, then you would use the Jupiter Ionizer Biostone Select™ Filter as the main filter in your water ionizer, and then add the external fluoride-aresnic pre-filter between your water source and your ionizer.

The last filter I purchased was a cheap generic filter from Amazon. It didn't last very long before the water started tasting bad. I called Snyderhealth and Dean hooked me up with the Biostone Select filter. This filter is so much heavier and more substantial than the generic one. My water tastes great and this filter should last much longer. I won't be buying the generic ones any more. I guess you get what you pay for. Thanks Dean!Would you recommend this product to a friend? I just want to say how happy I am with this company and their products. I've had so many issues with replacement filters from other companies in the past.
