Electro-Adsorptive Submicron Depth Filtration Media Technology
Removes All Water Borne Viral And Bacterial Contaminants!

The Jupiter Ionizer Protector™ Red-D Ultra submicron depth filtration filter uses a proprietary, patented, electro-adsorptive, ion exchange media technology capable of removing up to 99.99% of submicron pathogens, bacteria, viruses and cysts as well as removing or reducing chlorine, bromine, iodine, VOCs, PCBs and BPA, residual pharmaceuticals, organic acids, polysaccharides, proteins, and heavy metals.

This makes the Protector Red-D Ultra Filter the perfect filter to use with well-water and minimally treated municipally-supplied tap water. Includes a filter adapter stand and Vortex Channeling for improved performance.

DO NOT use this product with a contaminated or biologically unsafe water supply.

Electroadsorptive Technology
The Jupiter Ionizer Protector™ Red-D Ultra Filter media removes a wide range of submicron particulates, pathogens, trace pharmaceuticals and cellular debris with its naturally occurring electropositive charge. Protector™ Red-D Ultra is specifically engineered to have this charge field cover the entire depth and void volume of the media. By accomplishing submicron "filtration" with a charge field rather than with mechanical pores, Protector™ Red-D Ultra has a small fraction of the pressure drop and many times the flow rate as compared to ultrafiltration membranes having similar efficiency.

Powdered Activated Carbon
The Jupiter Ionizer Protector™ Red-D Ultra Filter also contains powdered activated carbon (PAC) with an average particle size of only 8 microns. Activated carbon at this particle size has a very high pore size to weight ratio which produces remarkably high dynamic adsorption. The filter uses no adhesives or binders to retain the carbon, therefore significantly more active sites remain available for adsorption of chlorine, iodine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), disinfection by-products (DPBs) and organic acids from water.

Silver Impregnate Zeolite
Silver, in the form of silver impregnate zeolite, is also impregnated into the Protector™ Red-D Ultra Filter to ensure no bacteria can grow in the media. Because it is embedded into the filter media the silver does not leach into the water. It is important to note the distinction between nanosilver and the silver impregnate zeolite we use in the Protector™ Red-D Ultra Filter. Nanosilver is typically 25 nanometers in size and can freely move through the dermal layer and in between human cells. The Agion® silver impregnated zeolite we use has an average diameter of 2 micron (2000 nanometers) or approximately 100 times larger than nanosilver. This difference in size eliminates the possibility of the Agion® zeolite being considered to be nanoparticle. In addition, the Agion® product contains the silver internal to the zeolite. Silver is not available in a free form. This means the silver contained within the zeolite can only be released in the presence of other ions, taking the place of the silver in the zeolite. This method of ion exchange provides for controlled delivery.

The Protector Red-D Ultra filter reduces or removes the following pathogens:
  • >99.99% viruses (polio, rotovirus, norovirus, etc.)*
  • >99.99% bacteria (e coli, legionella, pseudomonas,etc.)*
  • >99.95% cysts (giardia, cryptosporidium, etc.)*
    * Tested by a certified laboratory in the U.S. (testing was done at 6.5pH)
The Protector Red-D Ultra filter reduces or removes the following heavy metals:
  • >95% Lead*
  • >80% Ferrous Iron*
  • >95% Arsenic V*
  • >95% Cadmium*
  • >85% Chromium*
  • >75% Selenium*
  • >60% Mercury*
    * Tested by a certified laboratory in the U.S. (testing was done at 6.5pH)
The Protector Red-D Ultra filter reduces or removes the following organics and inorganic chemicals:
  • Chlorine
  • Bromine
  • Iodine
  • VOCs (volatile organic compounds)
  • PCBs and BPA
  • Residual pharmaceuticals
  • Biofouling precursors: organic acids, proteins, polysaccharides
Vortex Channeling
Water flowing through a filter is able to "channel" around the carbon granules and avoid filtration. Water seeks the path of least resistance. When it flows through a bed of loose carbon granules, it can carve a channel where it can flow freely with little resistance. Water flowing through the channel does not come in contact with the filtration medium, thus resulting in poor performance and shorter filter life span.
The Jupiter Ionizer Protector™ Red-D Ultra Filter utilizes Vortex Channeling technology in both the inlet and outlet of the filter which forces the water to be evenly dispersed throughout the filter media. This results in a far greater amount of contact with the filtering media beds by avoiding channeling and increases the performance and life span of the filter.

Dean's Bottom Line: Utilizing the latest electro-adsorptive, ion exchange media technology the Protector™ Red-D Ultra is capable of removing up to 99.99% of submicron pathogens, bacteria, viruses and cysts. This makes it one of the most effective well-water filters we have seen to date. Also containing powdered activated carbon, this filter will also work nicely with city-supplied water, but only if it has a minimum amount of treatment chemicals.
How do I know when my filter needs to be replaced? All machines that use this filter have either a digital numeric readout or a progressive bar indicator. When the numeric readout reaches 9999 (or 999 on 3-digit readouts) or if all of the filter bars are lit up, generally a filter light will begin to blink letting you know that you've reached the maximum capacity of the filter. This can also be accompanied by the ionizer playing a constant tune. This can happen anywhere between 6 to 12 months, depending on the amount of water your family uses. When that occurs, it's time to change the filter. Also, you should change the filter at least every 12 months, whether the filter use light is blinking or not. It has been two years since I changed my filter last, but I don't use the machine that often. Do I still need to change the filter? Yes. Even though you may only be using the water ionizer once in a while, the filter media and housing is filled with water. The integrity of the internal filter media will begin to diminish over time, and the inside of the filter will degrade. Therefore, it is imperative that you change your filter at least once every 12 months. What is the adapter that comes with this filter? The Jupiter Ionizer Protector™ Red-D Ultra Filter comes with its own filter adapter, to be used inside ionizer's that currently use filter adapters. Some machines do NOT use adapters (i.e. the Melody JP-104), and so you would not use the adapter that comes with this filter. But, if your machine uses filter adapters, you want to use the included adapter with the filter. How do I install the adapter? After removing your old filter and adapter, insert the included adapter into the spring-loaded baseplate FIRST (before you install the filter). Then, after the adapter is in place you can then install the filter (inserting the top of the adapter into the bottom of the filter first). What is the pore size in microns of this filter? The Protector™ Red-D Ultra Filter has been specifically engineered to have an average pore size of 2 microns and a mean flow pore of 0.7 microns. This allows the charge field created by the fibers to effect the total volume of the individual pores as well as virtually the entire void volume of the filter media itself. 1-micron Red-D Ultra media has more than 400 individual pores making up the average sheet thickness of 0.8 mm. Contaminants are removed by being exposed to a torturous path through the media, depth and powerful electropositive charge field generated by the fibers. Is this filter appropriate for city-supplied water? The Protector™ Red-D Ultra Filter contains powdered activated carbon, spread throughout the entire filter. Therefore, it does have the ability to work with treated city-supplied water, as long as the treatment level is not excessive. This filter is not meant to reduce all of the contaminants you would normally find in heavily treated municipal water. However, if your ionizer has two filters (Athena JS-205) then you can use this filter in one of the filter compartments, while using a more appropriate filter in the second filter compartment.

I have an very old ionizer so I'm very happy that I can still buy filters for it. Hopefully you'll sell these for a long time. Just wish the filters were a bit cheaper.
