Ionizer Plates Clean For Longer Life And Better Performance
The #1 cause of water ionizer failure is scale buildup within the machine. Scale buildup occurs when the source water that is feeding the ionizer has an excessive amount of calcium (hard water), and that calcium begins to collect on the interior surface of the ionizer electrolysis plating and tubing. Although hard water is most associated with those folks who are on well-water (with wells that are over 300 feet deep), it can definitely be an issue even for those on city/municipally supplied tap water.
Jupiter Ionizer Citric Acid Cleaning Cartridges are single-use cartridges containing a proprietary citric acid cleaning solution which cleans the plates and interior parts of your water ionizer (see model list). Made exclusively for SnyderHealth, this filter will eliminate most scale build up on the plates inside the chamber of your ionizer to help to keep your ionizer running smoothly, and will help prolong its useful life. This cleaning cartridge should be purchased and used once every 12 months to reduce harmful scale build up. If you live in a hard-water area, this cleaning cartridge is recommended to be used every 6 months.
The Jupiter Ionizer Citric Acid Cleaning Cartridge is a non-corrosive and non-toxic single-use filter cartridge, and is a great investment to help your ionizer work like new over the life of your machine.
Instructions For Use- Open the appropriate filter compartment door. If using with an Athena JS-205 water ionizer, be sure to use this cartridge in position #2 (right side) ONLY.
- Remove the filter that is currently installed in your ionizer and set that filter aside until the cleaning process is completed. If you’ll be installing a new filter after using this cleaning cartridge, keep the old filter until you verify that the new filter is installed and working properly before discarding the old filter.
- Install this cleaning cartridge RIGHT SIDE UP so you can read the label.
- Stretch the top spout (stainless-steel flexible hose) out over the sink and curl the end upwards so that the tip is above the height of the water ionizer. This will allow the flex hose to fully fill up with the citric acid/water solution.
- Raise the acid-water outlet hose so that the end of the hose is at the same height as the stainless steel flex hose and then use a cable tie or hose clamp to attach the two hoses together.
- Run water through the ionizer at a very low flow rate (a slow trickle) using the PURIFY ONLY mode. DO NOT use any other mode when going through this cleaning process or else DAMAGE MAY OCCUR. If using a flow-through type ionizer (e.g. Athena, Melody, Microlite), unplug the power completely during the cleaning process.
- Once you see water coming out from the alkaline & acidic water hoses, SHUT OFF THE WATER SUPPLY. Let the ionizer sit this way for 30-60 minutes to allow the citric acid/water solution to break up the scale buildup in the ionizer.
- Remove the cable tie and re-position the top spout and lower hose back to their normal positions. Run the water at half-normal speed in PURIFY ONLY mode for 3-5 minutes. This will flush all of the citric acid from the ionizer.
- THIS IS A SINGLE-USE CARTRIDGE. Remove and discard the empty Cleaning Cartridge and re-install your regular filter back into the ionizer.
- Run water through your ionizer for one minute with the regular filter in place.

My Athena is 3.5 years old and I did not notice how alkaline water had begun running increasingly slower over time. I followed the directions for this cleaning cartridge, letting it sit for just over one hour, and it now runs like new! I will definitely be using one of these each time I replace my #2 filter, keeping my machine in great working order.
Do yourself a favor and start using this product at least once a year.
January 8, 2019 update: My Athena JS205 is now 5 years old and still runs like new thanks to these citric acid cleaning cartridges. This time I forgot and left the cartridge in overnight for a total of approximately 11 hours. My heart sank when I realized what I had done. I thought for sure that I destroyed the internals of the machine. But after a thorough internal rinse the machine ran like new again and continues operating just fine ever since.Would you recommend this product to a friend? Definitely
