What exactly is a water ionizer?
Water ionization, or water electrolysis, is the method of producing a concentration of alkaline and acidic minerals - separating the oxygen and hydrogen found in water (H2O). The alkaline water provides an antioxidant and electron rich medium for consumption, and the acidic water provides oxidizing water that works like an antibacterial and cleanser for external use. A water ionizer is an electronic device that achieves the separation of water into alkaline and acidic streams, straight from your tap water, by a method of electrolysis.
How does a water ionizer hook up to my tap water?
A water ionizer sits neatly on your countertop near your sink, can be mounted on your wall, or can be put below the sink (with an optional undersink kit). It hooks directly up to your faucet with a diverter valve that allows you to alternate between running water through the ionizer or running water through your faucet. It is a flow-through unit so your water is filtered and ionized instantly. There are no tanks to fill. The water travels through the filters and then the ionizing chamber quickly, producing about 3 liters of water per minute. The water ionizer also has to be plugged in, so you will want to make sure you have an electrical outlet near the water ionizer.
What can I use the acidic water for?
The skin is naturally an acidic organ. People who regularly use acidic water to wash their bodies tend to have a younger looking skin than those who use hard water. Hard water is water that is alkaline usually due to the presence of excess calcium. By applying acidic (soft) ionized water to the skin it will help to clear up excess bacteria (reduce acne and other blemishes) and will work like an astringent to tighten up the skin and remove wrinkles. In Japanese hospitals acidic water is used to help sterilize wounds, treat diabetic ulcers and keep hospitals clear of infectious bacteria and viruses. Acidic ionized water can also be used to reduce inflammation and itchiness caused by insect bites.
Why do water ionizers have different levels of pH that can be selected?
Water ionizers usually have at least 3 levels of intensity to choose from. This is mainly because ionized water is extremely detoxifying; people who have toxins built up in their system can suffer reactions such as headaches or diarrhea. This is especially true of the elderly because they often have built up many toxins in their bodies over the years. Also those who have a very poor diet or have taken a lot of medications over the years. Having different levels of pH available simply allows people to build their tolerance for ionized water more slowly if they wish.
Is a water ionizer difficult to install?
Absolutely not. Installing a water ionizer is relatively easy, and only takes about 5 minutes. There is no special plumbing skills required, and can be installed by almost anyone. The only problem people encounter with installing a water ionizer, is trying to get that rusted aerator off of the faucet that probably should have been changed years ago. Other than that, installing an ionizer is no more difficult that hooking up a new coffee maker.
Can the Venus be installed under the sink with the Undersink Conversion Kit?
The answer is mostly no, but it can be done. The reason I say "no" is because the Venus has a self-cleaning mode that will come on after ever 20 liters of use. If the Venus is under the sink you will never know when the cleaning cycle is running unless you are really paying attention to the machine, and the sound it makes when it goes into cleaning mode. When the machine goes into cleaning mode is will produce acid water through the alkaline spout (reverse polarity). If you don't know that the machine is in cleaning mode, you will likely fill your glass up with acid water to drink, without even knowing it. So, if you want to do an under sink hookup with an ionizer, and want a lower cost machine, we highly recommend that you go with a Melody JP-104 instead of the Venus JP-107.
What levels of pH and ORP can I expect from the Venus?
On average, the AlkaViva Venus will produce a 4.5pH and +500mV on the low side, and a 10pH and -500mV on the high side. Remember, it is the quality of your tap water that will ultimately decide the highest and lowest pH and ORP ranges of your machine. The Venus can only do the best job it can with the water that you are putting through it. The Venus is an excellent entry-level water ionizer, but is not nearly as powerful as a higher priced unit (i.e. the Athena or Vesta); but will still produce water at a pH level that is great for drinking.
Does the Venus at least produce a high enough pH level for healthy drinking water, even though it is not as powerful as higher-priced units?
Research in Asia (where water ionizers are actually "medical devices") shows that the ideal level for drinking alkaline water is between pH 8.5 - 9.5pH with an ORP of -250mv. It is unimportant if an ionizer creates big -ORP numbers at really high levels of pH. Water over a 10pH begins to acquire an unpleasant taste due to the heavy concentration of minerals. What is important, is drinking water at the ideal alkaline levels of pH 8.5 - 9.5pH with a good consistent -ORP. The Venus can easily achieve pH and ORP levels that have been shown to be the most beneficial to health.
Why does the Venus have the same model number as the old Microlite?
The Jupiter Microlite is no longer sold in America, and was replaced by the Venus. Emco Tech literally broke the "mold" for the Microlite and decided to replace the Microlite with the more advanced Venus, since the Microlite was considerably outdated. So, they decided to give the new Venus the model number of JP-107 since the Microlite would no longer be manufactured.

Warranty Information
Warranty: The warranty on AlkaViva ionizers begins on the original purchase date. The AlkaViva Lifetime warranty covers the original purchase for LIFE on all ionizer parts (not accessories). 100% of labor costs are covered in the first 5 years. After the first 5 years the purchaser is responsible for any labor costs-to a maximum of $199. AlkaViva will cover all shipping costs for 30 days. After that, the purchaser is responsible for all shipping costs. Items that have not been assigned an RMA number will not be accepted. This warranty only covers failures due to defects in materials and workmanship which occur during normal use. This warranty does not cover damage which occurs in return shipment, or failures which are caused by products not supplied by the warrantor, damage due to mineral build up, or failures which result from accident, misuse, abuse, neglect, mishandling, faulty installation, misapplication, improper insertion of consumables, set-up adjustments, maladjustment of consumer controls, improper operation or maintenance, alteration, modification, power line surge, improper voltage supply, commercial use, or service by anyone other than an AlkaViva authorized repair facility, or damage attributable to acts of God.
Limits and Exclusions: There are no express warranties except as listed above. The warrantor is not responsible for incidental or consequential damage; for damages arising out of the use of any unauthorized attachment; or for damages resulting from the use of the product with a defective water faucet. This warranty does not cover repairs caused by customer neglect or by failure to stop the mineral build-up including, but not limited to calcium/iron in hard water areas. If using untreated well water, it is always the customer's responsibility to pretreat so it is safe and suitable for use with an ionizer. All express and implied warranties, including the warranties of merchantability and fitness for particular purpose, are limited to the applicable warranty period. Repair and/or replacement will be at the final discretion of AlkaViva.
